Queer Glasgow nightclub Bonjour announced an emergency fundraising party this Friday, October 14th, to save the venue from the threatening cost-of-living crisis.
Local music heroes such as DJ and curator Bonzai Booner, hardcore DJ Joey Mousepads, and hard dance DJ poog1rl will perform at the event. The Saltmarket nightlife hub took to social media to announce that despite closure risk, the worker-owned space won’t give up without a fight.
Besides encouraging supporters to join the fundraising event, the team behind Bonjour Glasgow also asks the wider community to share raising funds ideas.
In COVID-19’s aftermath, the inclusive nightclub faced backdated rent payments, making it difficult for Bonjour to stay afloat.
The Glasgow venue’s management also cited spiraling energy costs, unforeseen closures, and security staff costs as additional financial setbacks. “Recently, these factors have hit us hard,” the social media post reads.
Glasgow Bonjour’s message continues saying that the venue reached a point where staff “can no longer manage these costs without taking action.” At present, Bonjour’s future is uncertain as staff is “facing the reality that we may have to close.”
A much-loved LGBT+ space, Bonjour opened in the summer of 2021, aiming to bridge the gap between nightlife and inclusivity in Glasgow’s clubbing scene.
In no time, the venue became the go-to space for people of colour, trans, and non-binary individuals while becoming a key nightlife element of the city.
