The Mayan is a historic landmark movie theater now a nightclub and music venue.
Originally a charming performance arts theater called Mayan Theater, the iconic building opened in 1927. The historic venue transformed into a flashy nightclub in 1990 and has since been under the ownership of Carlos Tobalina since 1971.
It is located in downtown Los Angeles, within walking distance from Crypto.com Arena and LA Convention Center. The building’s facade is ornately carved with Mayan figures and sculptures, and the interiors feature an Aztec sun-stone-inspired ceiling.
Exclusively open on Fridays and Saturdays, The Mayan features a rotation of live music performances and in-house DJs. This beautiful Mayan revival-style nightclub falls in the multi-genre category, playing a mix of pop, hip-hop, Latin, reggaeton, and rock.
It seems like The Mayan has the “never too old to party” mantra at its core. Take a quick look at the crowds and discover that people of all ages and social statuses flock to its groovy dance floor.
As one of the older buildings in the city, The Mayan makes up the historic fabric of the neighborhood that should not be taken for granted. Showcasing beautiful interiors spread across multiple levels, this undeniably large space gives clubbers more reasons to hit the dance floor.
