La Cita is a traditional Latin dance club that features DJs and live music performances in an old-school setting.
Owner Carl Lofgren and his partners David Neupert, Pete Lenavitt and Jeff Semones purchased the nightclub in 2006 from the original owners – the Daswick family. Located in downtown Los Angeles, La Cita is nestled in a historic building that dates back to 1879.
La Cita maintains live music performances earlier in the evenings featuring a wide variety of everything Latin music–ranchero, cumbia, norteño, merengue, Afro-Latin. The new owners decided to lengthen opening hours and later in the night have DJs spin a mix of funk, pop, and Latin.
Latin music blasting on the speakers brings out even the shiest ones to hit the dance floor. La Cita now showcases a widened selection of tequila behind the bar that surely makes for a rowdy crowd.
The live music performances draw a crowd of older regulars, who have been dancing at this venue for decades. On weekends and late nights, La Cita attracts a younger crowd of bar hoppers with the DJ mixing Latin tunes with contemporary sounds.
Revelers know what makes a venue great – the music. La Cita doesn’t stop at the live Latin music performances but features an eclectic mix of Latin with modern sounds. Not only does La Cita not disappoint on that note, but it also exceeds expectations.
