Catch One is a multi-level space with three dance floors, three bars, and weekly theme parties.

Originally named Jewel’s Catch One after the founder Jewel Thais Williams, the nightclub opened its doors in 1973. In operation for over 40 years, this venue was the longest-running black gay bar in Los Angeles. Mitch Edelson purchased the venue in 2015, renaming it Catch One.

It is located along Pico Boulevard in the Mid-City neighborhood of central Los Angeles, with many of the city’s landmarks lining the street.

When the nightclub first opened, it was a cultural hub for the stars we know and love today such as Whoopi Goldberg, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Sylvester, Rick James, Janet Jackson, Donna Summer, and Madonna.

Today, Catch One’s DJs play a multi-genre mix of hip-hop, electronic, soul, and funk, across its three dance floors.

After facing discrimination from the nightclubs in Hollywood as a black woman, Thais vowed to create a safe, inclusive space where everyone is welcome. Clubbers of all types, no matter their sexual orientation or racial background can enjoy a night out in Catch One. This ethos is still maintained today.

Ever since it opened, Catch One has served as a refuge for the marginalized community of LGBTQ+ and people of color in the city. Catch One is a name that has etched itself into the annals of history, so be sure to check it off your list on your next visit.
