For over a decade, XOYO’s two-floor club has been the epicentre of music eclecticism in Shoreditch, London. This unique venue is dimly lit and adorned with neon lights that make it stand out from the rest.

XOYO is located in a repurposed printing workshop

Back in 2010, the stalwart XOYO opened its doors for the first time as a dark and hazy music hub. Before XOYO’s walls buzzed with heavy electronic beats, the industrial building served as a print work.

Columbo Group rejuvenated the venue and transformed the printing building into an eclectic clubbing destination.

It stays true to its Shoreditchian nature

After passing through the club’s doors, your eyes will be instantly glued to the cemented floors, raw brick walls and towering ceiling – all reflecting Shoreditch’s industrial aesthetic.

Expect a Berlin-like electronic temple atmosphere – XOYO’s rooms mirror an obscure milieu, occasionally illuminated by a kaleidoscope of lights.

XOYO doesn’t like to stick to one music genre

Although XOYO’s popularity shot through the stratosphere thanks to its electronic clubbing session, the London club is not loyal to this music repertoire. Instead, XOYO keeps things varied with a plethora of subgenres and crossovers.

During the mighty weekend, everything is soaked in electronic beats. But XOYO’s versatile nature challenges you to take everything with a grain of salt. Next Saturday might not bring your electronic fix – disco and UK garage are just two of the music genres your ears might witness during the weekend. 

Its weeknights put hip-hop and R&B sounds at the night’s forefront, as guest DJs and live performances tend to switch things up every now and then.

Big industry names are part of XOYO’s impressive roster

The likes of English musician Jamie XX and Scottish producer Rustie performed at XOYO, along with a roster of impressive local and international artists.

In other words, if they’re at the forefront of electronic music, there’s a high chance XOYO invited them to take over the decks.

Drake once shocked XOYO clubbers with a surprise gig in 2017

Back in 2017 famous rapper Drake surprised guests with a secret gig at XOYO. 

At the time, the rapper had just finished an eight-day-run at London’s O2 Arena, and stuck around for some more music action. 

Although only Smoke Dawg and Nafe Smallz were scheduled to perform, Drake was joined on stage by Skepta, Giggs and Section Boyz, and the performers gave clubbers an unforgettable night.

The venue holds up to 800 people

Spanning across two floors, XOYO holds up to 800 clubbers at a time.

The Green Room sits on the top floor, consisting of a rebranded tiny dance floor sprinkled with tables and a bar. For some real action, head downstairs to the basement. Also dubbed as the main room, this bad boy features a wider space and a bigger dance floor. 

A long bar runs alongside the right side, meaning you’ll never have to wait too long for a drink. Phew.

Despite having a large capacity for an East London gem, XOYO’s weekend events are sold out most of the time.

XOYO regularly hosts a residency series

This buzzing London club frequently hosts scheduled residency series. What started as a humble 2014 project swiftly converted into 12-week Saturday residencies that feature multiple DJs.

Rather than giving full control over set-lists to a few resident DJs, XOYO changes its roster after a few weeks. These ever-evolving residencies not only give DJs a vast amount of recognition, but also constantly brings new sounds to the Shoreditch gem.

The dress code might not be strict, but it’s not tolerant either

While XOYO might be considered one of the city’s most permissive venues regarding dress code, rules and regulations should still be followed.

Its laid-back dress code policy allows the jeans featuring trainers combo and high heels are not mandatory. In this no-fuss fashionable environment, tracksuits, suits, and fancy dresses are no-go – if it isn’t Halloween.

Did someone say top-notch sound system?

Bumpy beats call out for an upper-crust sound system. XOYO was known for its clear and crisp sound system before the recent additional installation – but the fresh refurbishment made it so good that clubbers can feel and hear the bass go through them. 

But the main dance floor is not the only area whose sound was rehabilitated.

The Green Room’s sound is loud, bassy and bullet-hard – exactly how it should be.

In the sprawling mass of London nightclubs, XOYO is a breath of fresh air. With its vibrant fusion of versatile sounds and buzzing vibes, there is nothing that one wouldn’t love about this clubbing destination.
