How The Box Soho came to be

The hedonistic temple and self-proclaimed “theater of varieties” opened in February 2011. The Box Soho followed its sister venue The Box Manhattan, which launched four years before the London nightclub.

Club founder and entrepreneur Simon Hammerstein, the grandson of lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, comes from a family of theater actors and directors – so the concept behind The Box Soho’s ethos came to him as an idea of blending and defying his roots’ rigidity.

When we said The Box Soho wasn’t for everyone, we meant it.

The club is one of the most expensive in the UK, so if you have a couple of hundred quid to spare, this is just the entry fee if you manage to make it past security. The nightclub operates on guest lists, and walk-ins are unlikely but not impossible.

Table prices can go up to a few thousand pounds, meaning you can forget about paying rent if you opt for a regular table. Trust fund babies can ask for VIP services and the dinner-and-show concepts, but we can only imagine a very stern talk with the parents afterward.

There’s more than what meets the eye at the London club

The Box Soho is not KitKat Berlin, but we can guess the London nightlife temple has a soft spot for sex-positive clubbing. When things get hot and raunchy at the Box Soho, you can book a private room called the Keyhole.

Rented hourly and available to generous spenders willing to fill out a form and express their needs, the private room is a secret that the Box Soho will never tell.

The Keyhole translates into the place where guests can experience kinky nightlife affairs coupled with top-shelf booze in a closed-off area. Rumor has it orgies occasionally break out at the club, so you can expect the unexpected.

The Box Soho has an interesting past

The high-end club’s location formerly housed The Raymond Revuebar, the only strip club in London from 1958 to 2004. After the rise of similar establishments gave it a run for its money, the strip club shut down and was taken over by a gay bar and cabaret club called Soho Revue Bar.

The Box Soho is the talk of the town, but so is its owner. In 2008, two performers known collectively as Twincest sought legal action against Hammerstein, accusing him of coercing them into sexual acts. Though details about the case were on the down-low, the case ended with a settlement.
