If the name doesn’t give it away, the venue used to be an old theater

Just like its relative Teatro Barceló, Teatro Kapital rose from the ashes of an old theater.

Before transforming into the superclub we know today, the entertainment venue was called Titanic and represented the go-to destination for working-class youngsters.

It wasn’t until 1994 that people started referring to the super venue as Teatro Kapital.

The club stretches over seven different floors

When it comes to spacious dancefloors, the Spanish club plays its cards right. Also dubbed as Madrid’s biggest club, it features a structure that would make anyone pick up his jaw from the floor.

The building is divided into seven independent floors, each oozing an entirely unique vibe – it is pretty much like having seven clubs in one.

The third floor is all about hip-hop, R&B, tables for bottle service. The ground floor features mostly house and dance music, while the second floor provides clubbers with a karaoke stage to sing their hearts out.

On the fourth floor sits The Kissing Room, which is mostly about boozy drinks and chill – a well-deserved timeout away from the loud dance floors. The fifth dancefloor, named The Party, plays all the mainstream pop hits you’ll hear around Spain.

Its sixth and seventh floors are home to Quintoelemento, a gastro-entertainment restaurant nestled in a large retractable dome – doesn’t that sound like an Instagrammable plus?

It doesn’t have the most permissive door policy

One should not get fooled by the superclub’s impressive capacity – the door crew’s curation skills translate into a picky door policy.

Teatro Kapital is considered to have one of the strictest entry policies in the city, with rejections being an common occurrence.

It might not be as strict as Berghain’s, but if you show up in jeans and sporty T-shirts when the dress code is smart casual you will 100% be asked to step aside.

The venue can hold up to 2,000 people at a time

The massive superclub makes the most out of its space, with a capacity of nearly 2,000 attendees at one time.

But Teatro Kapital doesn’t seem to struggle filling up its various dancefloors and bars.

Teatro Kapital is more of an experience than just music

According to the venue’s general manager, David de la Heras, Teatro Kapital offers an experience unlike any other in Madrid. “In Kapital we offer experiences – it’s a magical night,” he said in an El Espanol interview.

And the legendary club lives up to the manager’s promises.

With its remarkable space, diverse music repertoire and mind-boggling performances, the Madrid club always has something up its sleeve.

“In applying the concept of club to a local of seven floors. It is not a place where music is played and drinks are served. We offer something else.”

David de la Heras

Teatro Kapital is home to more than clubbing events

When in Madrid, clubbing at Teatro Kapital is a must. But that’s not the only reason why the superclub enjoys a roaring popularity – it is also a go-to spot for concerts and other large-scale events.

The venue’s main ground served as a playground for a wide range of bands coming from different music backgrounds.

Artists such as Leprous, Katatonia, James Blake, Vance Joy, and Modestia Aparte are only few of the big-name acts that graced Teatro Kapital’s stage.

Show up early if you want to get in

First come, first served – this seems to be the secret recipe to get past Teatro Kapital’s doors. Since the mega club has earned the reputation of a picky door policy, you might get a ‘no’, even if you respect the dress code.

Clubbers tend to queue up after midnight, so try to show up before the door crew already has their hands full.

Rubbing shoulders with celebrities isn’t uncommon at Teatro Kapital

Guest lists might not be a thing at Teatro Kapital, but A-list celebrities are for sure. The Madrid club is rather mainstream than upscale – but its determination to cater to anyone and everyone garnered the attention of celebrities.

At the end of the night, everybody wants a taste of Madrid’s authentic nightlife.

Famous actor Robert De Niro, members of the British royal family, and tennis star Rafa Nadal have all passed through the club’s doors.

Did someone say live performances?

For the lucky guests who attend some of the venue’s themed nights, a one-of-a-kind live performance usually awaits.

Aerial acrobatics and burlesque shows are all part of the menu – prepare yourself to be flabbergasted.

Free Thursday entry – myth or reality?

A sea of comments and posts flood Teatro Kapital’s Facebook page, advertising free entry every Thursday before 1 AM. Officially, it is true – but in practice, nothing is guaranteed.

If we listen to Teatro Kapital’s voice, anyone who wants to pass the club’s doors without charge has to tell the bouncer they are on the guestlist.

But if we listen to the bouncers’ voice, this is subject to change if you don’t resonate with the club. Which means you can be positive about it, but also have some cash in your pocket – you never know.

As the godfather of Madrid’s nightlife, one would expect Teatro Kapital to be the epitome of the ‘it’ clubbing experience.

Not only that it doesn’t disappoint on that note, but it also exceeds your expectations.
