The venue was originally one of Madrid’s most emblematic theaters

Who says you can’t add a dash of performing arts to your next clubbing experience?

The art-deco building sheltering Teatro Barcelo’s beats was once a naval-inspired theater.

Half a century before the iconic venue first opened its doors, Luis Gutiérrez Soto (one of the most roaring names in Spain’s architecture) designed Teatro Barcelo’s current venue in honour of sailor Paula Barceló.

The building’s main source of inspo was a naval ship

First impressions always count – and Teatro Barcelo Madrid surely makes a statement with its exterior design.

When in Madrid, you are doomed to fall in love with the Spanish city’s art-deco architectural style – and Teatro Barcelo is no exception to that rule.

Resembling a naval ship, the complex displays features of constructivism, an avant-garde trend embedded in USSR’s architecture.

The modern club stays true to its roots

Despite its dramatic transformation from a performing arts theater to a legendary Madrid nightclub, Teatro Barcelo preserves its original glamor.

Walking through its doors feels like using a time machine – we can thank the theatre-esque atmosphere for that. It is still very much alive in the wooden floors and overall structure of the venue.

But Teatro Barcelo is more than a Phoenix rising from the ashes – it made it better. With lavish VIP areas and deep red lights flooding the dancefloor, the clubbing destination kept its free-spirited personality.

It’s more than a club – it also hosts live music events

Although that’s definitely its biggest selling point, Teatro Barcelo is more than just a nightclub. Concerts and live music events are also part of the package.

Thanks to the generous stage and blaring sound system, the venue can host concerts and other live music events. Some of the artists who have graced its stages include Troy Sivan, Jonas Blue, and Walk the Moon.

Teatro Barcelo Madrid plays all kinds of music genres

Music diversity is part of Teatro Barcelo’s ethos.

As one of Madrid’s biggest discos, the clubbing destination features a balanced mix of commercial mash-up, infused with house hits, techno beats, and bumpy reggaeton.

As soon as you step inside, your ears will witness the finest multi-genre mixture – which means that whoever you are and whatever music genre you are into, Teatro Barcelo surely has it prepped up.

There’s no shortage of VIP rooms

Epic music calls for epic crowds – in Teatro Barcelo’s language, that translates into VIP patrons and Madrid’s blue blood. The club’s overall upscale vibe calls for one thing – five VIP areas.

The main VIP space puts guests in the spotlight. Literally. As the core of the main room, this area sits right in front of the DJ decks – now you can give your fav DJ a high-five when he finishes his set.

This bad boy is followed by the upper balcony area, which gives you a bird’s-eye-view of the main room.

If this doesn’t scream like the perfect vantage point to watch the party from above, we don’t know what will. We also have Scotch, the reggaeton VIP area where the beats of urban songs are blasting through the speakers.

Last but not least, the Barcelo Sky Room is one of the club’s most otherworldly spots, which can be understood only by the guests who witnessed its magic.

It looks familiar because you’ve probably seen it on Netflix

If the dim dancefloor soaked in strobes of purple and blue seems a little familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen it on Netflix.

The club is a frequent location in the Netflix hit show Elite

Teatro Barcelo Madrid is a clubbing leitmotif in the binge-worthy series. From graduation parties and blackouts to impromptu hookups, the venue’s walls witnessed many paramount moments from the Spanish series.

If you are part of the Las Encinas student gang, you know the venue is truly one of the best clubbing spots.

Famous icons partied between Teatro Barcelo’s walls

In the aftermath of the Movida movement, Teatro Barcelo morphed into a lusted-after VIP card that everybody was thirsty for. It comes as no surprise that everybody who is somebody has passed through the Spanish club’s doors.

From world-renowned artists to blue-blooded individuals, Teatro Barcelo has welcomed some of the most famed people.

Renowned artists such as pop art king Andy Warhol and legendary musicians like Prince have all relished in the club’s bumpy beats. Even cultural figures Miguel Bosé and the Duchess of Alba frequented the venue.

The club frequently throws themed parties

In an ever-evolving city, Teatro Barcelo is a pro at staying relevant in the nightlife industry. As the go-to place to hear, feel and live the music, this Spanish club organizes themed parties every now and then.

Teatro Barcelo Madrid saw daylight in the aftermath of the La Movida movement

If Madrileños wouldn’t have started the countercultural eruption La Movida, maybe we wouldn’t have had Teatro Barcelo on our clubbing checklists.

As Spain slowly began shaping its own cultural identity, so did Teatro Barcelo.

Oozing the type of chaos the whole country was embracing, the Spanish club embodied a Studio 54 vibe.

The democratic transition and post-Franco euphoric freedom gave Teatro Barcelo a kick-start that would make any club owner green-eyed.

All of the clubbers who visit this music temple have the mission to experience one of their best nights. If this is part of your agenda too, you already know what to do – one-way tickets to Madrid.
