The industrial venue was a cabaret clubb

Before turning into the iconic electronic music venue we know today, Moog club Barcelona was an old cabaret named Villa Rosa.

When electronic music devices started gaining popularity in the mid-90s, the genre was quickly on the rise in Europe.

The Mas brothers, who founded Mas i Mas group, transformed the dusty cabaret into a clubbing mecca dedicated to electronic sounds.

Moog’s name pays homage to the synthesizer inventor

From the get-go, Moog club Barcelona was more than just a nightclub.

At the end of the day, this electronic temple is dedicated to all things house and techno – so the founders wanted the name to reflect that.

It’s all about branding.

The nightclub was named Moog in honor of Robert Moog, the man we can all thank for the creation of the synthesizer. Electronic music wouldn’t be the same today without the audio signal instrument.

Moog may be Barcelona’s most popular techno hub, but it also features other genres

With such a dedication to the bumpy genre, it’s no surprise that Moog has a renowned reputation for being the ‘it’ clubbing destination for electronic aficionados.

Not a techno devotee? No problem. Alongside electronic genres like house, electro trash, trance and classic techno, Moog club Barcelona also features other sounds, such as dance-worthy alternative and indie.

It really depends on the day you want to pay Moog a visit, so make sure you check out the events before you put on your dancing shoes.

The club embodies the Berlin techno essence

The venue’s darkly atmospheric and tightly packed space is a reminder of Berlin’s underground techno clubs. Within the club’s industrial walls there is a no-fuss vibe, which puts music at the forefront of what it does.

With its bulletproof techno beats and laid-back spirit, Moog encapsulates the concept behind Berlin’s electronic temples.

Thanks to its minimalist interior and a focus on sound quality, Moog is the go-to place for intimate Berlin-like clubbing sessions right at Barcelona’s heart.

Moog’s many rooms enabled a diverse music repertoire

Moog’s downstairs floor is home to everything electronic-related.

The upstairs dance floor, also dubbed as the ‘mirrored room’, is a smaller space which features pop-oriented nights.

This is a breath of fresh air from the thumping bass – if your main playlist is not all things electronic.

But don’t get fooled by the venue’s multi-storey space – the club is relatively small and quickly filled up with guests.

The club is big on supporting small and local DJs

The combination of big and small names creates the perfect platform for fans to see their favorite acts live, while discovering local talent.

Moog is known for bringing up-and-coming local Spanish talent and relatively unknown artists to its audio decks. But resident DJs such as Omar Leon and DJ Olmos are not shy about taking over the audio mixer either.

Big names in the electronic industry are also included in the package. Jeff Mills and Daniel Avery, among several others, have performed in Moog’s intimate atmosphere.

Moog is located in a corner of downtown Barcelona

El Raval was once one of Barcelona’s most dangerous downtown areas. In the early twentieth century, the area was known for its poor living conditions.

However, El Raval experienced a resurgence. Now it shelters a vibrant nightlife scene, brimming with quirky bars, jaw-dropping street art and off-the-wall restaurants.

Who says pre-party activities can’t translate into snapping Insta-worthy pictures and sipping on lip-smacking cocktails?
